This Week at Darrtown

3.26.2026
This Sunday is the Sixth Sunday in Lent, also known as Palm Sunday.  Palm Sunday is our Christian observance that falls on the Sunday before Easter. It commemorates Jesus Christ’s triumphant entry into Jerusalem, where crowds greeted him by waving palm branches and laying them on the road. This event marks the beginning of Holy Week, leading up to Maundy Thursday, Good Friday and Easter Sunday. Our tradition is to also distribute palm fronds during worship to symbolize the palms used by the crowd. I remind you that some are held in storage and burned next year to become Ash Wednesday ashes. In addition to its biblical significance, Palm Sunday serves as a time for reflection and preparation for Christians as they approach the solemn events of Holy Week and is a meaningful tradition that connects our Lenten journey to our Holy Week journey that leads us to the empty tomb.  My sermon title is “Jesus Triumphant Entry”.
It is hard to believe we are approaching Palm Sunday and soon we will arrive at our Easter morning celebrations. This weekend and next week invite us to reflect on the journey Jesus made and the significance of Holy Week in our faith. As we prepare our hearts for the joy of Easter, let us remember the meaning behind the palm branches we wave and the hope that the resurrection brings. These weeks are a time to come together as a church family, support one another in faith, and draw closer to the promise that He lives. May this special time encourage us to deepen our devotion and share in the anticipation of the good news that Easter brings. I look forward to seeing you Sunday!

This year our Holy Week celebrations are as follows; Maundy Thursday will be at Darrtown UMC at 7:00 PM with a 6:00 PM potluck. All are welcome.
Good Friday Service will be hosted by Ross Community UMC also at 7:00 PM. Please join us for these Holy Week experiences. We invite you to bring friends and family as we remember and reflect on the significance of these sacred days together as we share in the joy and hope of Holy Week. We look forward to seeing you!

Sunrise Service on Easter morning will be at 7:15 am. We will then have breakfast together at 8:00am, before our 9:00am Easter Celebration. What a wonderful time to invite friends and family to join us for the real meaning of Easter.

The Celebration of Life for Sally Fritsch is planned for Saturday, April 11, @ 2pm here at Darrtown United Methodist. Please keep her family in your prayers. She was a friend to many.

Thought for the week:       “God loves each of us as if there were only one of us.”
